Welcome to UK Oil & Gas PLC

UK Oil & Gas Plc (UKOG) is an energy company that initially focused on oil and gas exploration and production in the UK and international onshore sectors. The company has now shifted its core strategy to lead the development of nationally significant salt cavern hydrogen storage projects in Dorset and Yorkshire.

UKOG aims to use its sustainable oil and gas production base as a foundation to advance its UK hydrogen storage business, supporting the delivery of a zero-carbon electricity system by 2030 and the transition to net zero by 2050.

In May 2022, UKOG’s subsidiary, UK Energy Storage Ltd (UKEn), signed a lease agreement with Portland Port Limited for two sites at the former Royal Navy port in Dorset. Subject to obtaining the necessary development consent and financing, UKOG plans to establish an integrated energy hub focused on hydrogen-ready salt cavern gas storage and future green hydrogen generation capabilities. The company has also secured an additional development site in Dorset and is exploring a third opportunity in Yorkshire.

UKOG’s current UK onshore oil and gas portfolio includes direct and indirect interests in five exploration, appraisal, development, and production assets, all located within the Weald Basin of southern England. UKOG holds a majority operating interest in the producing Horse Hill oil field, which is under review following a Supreme Court decision in June 2024 that the planning consent granted by Surrey County Council did not consider the end-use carbon emissions of the produced hydrocarbons. The company plans to work closely with SCC to address this issue promptly.

Additionally, UKOG is reviewing its portfolio in Turkey, which includes a 50% non-operated working interest in the 305 km² M47-b1, b2 licence (the Resan Licence) in southeast Turkey. The company also has non-operating interests in the long-established Horndean and Avington oil fields and holds majority interests in two other UK onshore oil and gas discoveries, including the significant Loxley Portland gas discovery, which is assessed to be the second largest gas accumulation ever discovered and flow tested in the UK onshore. UKOG now has all the necessary planning and environmental permits to proceed with the appraisal of Loxley.
